Happy Fit Tip Friday!

When it comes to using supplements, itā€™s important that you are supplementing a healthy diet versus trying to get all of your vitamins and minerals in this way.

Healthy whole foods should be your top priority. If you feel like you are eating a wholesome diet, with lots of lean protein, vegetables, whole grains, fruit and healthy fats, then you can look at a few supplements to round out your nutrition plan.

Which supplements to consider?

  1. Multivitamin
This is a great way to ensure you meet the daily minimum requirement for your vitamins and minerals. I typically use brands that Iā€™m familiar with and work well for me, such as Optimum Nutrition.

  2. Vitamin D
Most people donā€™t get enough vitamin D since being outside in the sun is the simplest way. Supplementing vitamin D is a surefire way to ensure you have enough. This is a fat-soluble vitamin that helps the body absorb and retain calcium and phosphorus; both are critical for building healthy bones.

  3. Collagen
In addition to being a great source of protein that you can easily add to your coffee, pre-workout, oatmeal, yogurt, etc., collagen is great for your hair, skin and nails. Iā€™ve used several brands but really like Naked Nutrition. Built Bars is also getting ready to launch their own line of collagen.

  4. Creatine
Creatine frequently gets a bad rap, but we actually make creatine. If building muscle is one of your goals, adding creatine can help. You donā€™t need to load it and you can easily add it to your protein shake or pre-workout.

And those are my go-to supplements! Which ones do you currently use? Hit reply and let me know.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Stay healthy,
Allison
